Tip of the Week:  Start a fresh chat for each new topic

If you’ve been asking about your garden and then switch to planning a trip in the same chat, the AI can mix the two up. Tap “New chat” whenever you change subjects. The answers come back cleaner, and it’s easier to find things later.

Prompt of the Week: Find the right gift for anyone on your list

“I need a gift for [who they are, like my 8-year-old grandson], who loves [interests]. My budget is about [$50]. Give me 5 ideas, include one that’s homemade or an experience instead of a thing, and tell me why each one fits.”

Win of the Week: A couple designed their new bedroom with ChatGPT
A couple sketched their master bedroom layout, had ChatGPT turn it into a floor plan, and talked through wood, finishes and styles using voice chat. They took the final images to their contractor. Great way to save time and money when doing a remodel! Send your Win of the Week to [email protected] and I'll feature it in a future briefing!

đź“° AI News of the Week

Good morning, Wise & Wired Studio Community! A lot of news in the world of AI this week that I thought you might find interesting:

📱 New AI Features in Products You Already Use
  • You can now text ChatGPT’s assistant like a friend. OpenAI is letting people message its “Dot” personal assistants through regular iPhone texts (iMessage) and Android texts (RCS). You can send texts, photos and voice messages, and the assistant can text you back with updates. Why it matters to you: If you already know how to text the grandkids, you already know how to use an AI assistant, with no new app to learn.
  • Alexa can now handle your shopping by conversation. Amazon added more than 100 shopping abilities to Alexa. You can manage purchases, subscriptions, refunds and gift lists just by talking. Why it matters to you: Returning an item or checking on a subscription could be as easy as asking out loud, with no squinting at small print on a website.
  • Yelp’s AI will call restaurants for you. Yelp has a new AI feature that phones restaurants to check wait times on your behalf. Why it matters to you: It saves you from sitting on hold before date night or a family dinner out.

🏠 New Gadgets Coming to Your Home
  • A cute “droid butler” home robot is taking reservations. A New York startup called Tuesday Labs showed off Voxel, a chirpy, cartoon-like robot meant to put things away, find lost items, fetch things and water plants. A $200 reservation holds a spot, and the estimated final price is about $20,000. Why it matters to you: Home helper robots are coming, but this one is a long way from ready, so enjoy the preview and keep your wallet closed for now.
  • Privacy-first AI glasses that work like a memory aid. Brilliant Labs launched Halo smart glasses for $399. They listen to and see what’s around you, then create written summaries you can search later, like a personal diary. The original audio and images are deleted from your phone right after processing. They weigh less than Meta’s Ray-Bans, last 14 hours on a charge and take prescription lenses. Why it matters to you: For anyone who wants help remembering conversations, names or appointments, this is a lighter, more private option than other smart glasses.

đź”’ Staying Safe Online
  • AI helped uncover a huge website security hole. Researchers using OpenAI’s AI confirmed two serious flaws in PHP, the software behind about 70% of websites, including anything built on WordPress. The flaws had been around for over 20 years. Several governments, including France, Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands, took sites offline as a precaution, and Cloudflare saw millions of attack attempts in just a few days. Why it matters to you: If you run a website for your club, church or hobby, especially a WordPress site, ask whoever manages it to make sure it’s updated right away.
  • Big banks are blocking AI assistants from your accounts. Morgan Stanley and Charles Schwab have restricted outside AI assistants from getting into customer accounts, and JPMorgan is building its own safeguards. Some of these assistants have tried to take actions people never clearly approved. Why it matters to you: Don’t give any AI assistant access to your bank or investment accounts yet, because one small mistake there involves real money.

❤️ Health and Wellness
  • A sad reminder not to let a chatbot replace your doctor. The parents of a woman with epilepsy have sued OpenAI. They say ChatGPT helped her plan to taper off her seizure medication and keep it from her doctors before she died in February. Chat logs reviewed by the New York Times show the bot brushing off her doctors’ warnings. Why it matters to you: AI can help you prepare questions for an appointment, but any change to a medication should always go through your doctor first. I go into deatil on using AI for medical decisions in Course 3, "AI for Your Health", part of the November Bundle.
  • AI is speeding up the search for new medicines. Anthropic started its own drug programs after Claude helped a solo founder move a drug candidate to promising results in mice within 18 months. Claude also designed antibodies that appeared to beat today’s leading drug at blocking allergy triggers in early tests. Why it matters to you: Faster drug discovery could mean new treatments, maybe even for allergies, reaching pharmacies sooner.

🌟 Practical Tips and Real-Life Stories
  • Forget the “magic words.” Just tell AI what you want and why. Old prompt tricks like “act as an expert” or “think step by step” don’t matter much anymore. What works now is explaining what you want, why it matters and what a good result looks like. Why it matters to you: You don’t need special training to get great answers; talk to AI the way you’d explain a job to a helpful neighbor.
  • Make flyers for your club or event with Canva’s new AI. Canva released its own AI image tool that’s built for designs rather than photos. It plans the layout first so headlines and prices are readable, and you can still edit the text afterward. Why it matters to you: Making a polished poster for a church bake sale, garden club or reunion just got a lot easier.
  • “Sent from my agent” is the new etiquette question. Rundown co-founder Rowan Cheung says he lets AI handle tasks but always writes anything that touches a person himself. He worries that a note signed “sent from my agent” tells the reader they weren’t worth your time. Why it matters to you: Let AI help with chores, but keep your birthday notes and messages to friends in your own words; that personal touch is what people treasure.

That’s it for this week! Please send an email to [email protected]  if you have comments about this Briefing or suggestions for future Briefings. Feel free to forward the Briefing to your friends.

Have a great day!
